A revolution in mining safety, Spinflector is a wind-powered innovation poised to end the costly cycle of manually cleaning mining delineators for good.
The Spinflector is the brainchild of mechanical engineer Trampas Cutler, who worked on mining sites for many years, during which he noticed the hidden on-going cost of keeping standard roadside reflectors clean.
“I watched crews manually clean thousands of roadside reflectors, costing sites thousands of productive hours,” Mr Cutler said.
“It’s an endless job as the reflectors get dirtied with grime over and over again. The simple task also requires stringent safety regulations to protect crew members.”
The cleaning teams face work health and safety issues as they work side-by-side large equipment all hours of the day and night.
Mr Cutler’s lightbulb moment came when he realised that wind energy could be harnessed to clean these delineators, solving two problems at once – reducing risks for workers and driving operational costs down.
The Spinflector has been tested on an active mine site for five months where not once did it need to be cleaned, and is now ready for commercial purchase.
